Spyro art trade by MotherMercuryMedia Spyro art trade by MotherMercuryMedia
This is an art trade I did with :iconxflowerstarx: for her love of Spyro the Dragon's original Playstation trilogy games. This is my art trade for her, a nice image from the first game of Spyro and Deblin together by the waterfall. It's not really any particular scene from the game but I thought it looked nice regardless. It was tricky to make the scales on the dragons without having to do it physically so I found a nice shortcut in SAI. I think it came out looking very good.

Spyro the Dragon is now owned by... not sure but the original games were developed by Insomniac games for Sony of America.

This fan art by ~Chri$ of Mother Mercury Media.

Thank you for the compliment but I don't quite understand your first part of your statement.  How does those things relate to this?

How weird, I was playing the first game numerous hours ago. :O_o: I think I played it too much today. ^^; I can't believe I completed it again in a day! :wtf: :omg: :omfg: :wow: :jawdrop:

Anyway, thank you so much for doing your half of the art trade. ;) :thanks:  :tighthug: :cuddle: :glomp: Now it's my turn. I'm guessing you based Spyro's pose on this picture:…

This brings me so many memories but there's nothing like a trip down memory lane, collecting gems, flying through speedways/flight levels and kicking Gnorc butt like nobody's business. :happycry: I'd say my personal favourite levels are Stone Hill, Dark Hallow, Toasty (due to the badass music and the bass in the drums and guitar. I can't stop head banging in rhythm to the music), Night Flight, Crystal Flight and Lofty Castle.

Anyway, you did a fantastic job at drawing Spyro and Delbin for the first time! ;) :iconthumbsupplz: I'm betting they're hanging around near the waterfall and the pond as well as the portal to Sunny Flight. When I drew Spyro for the first time, it wasn't easy. It took a lot of sketching and rubbing out to get his proportion right. At first, I wanted to draw his scales but that's gonna take ages so I decided to do the smart thing which is to colour his body purple. Bottom line, drawing dragons are incredibly difficult.

*sigh* I still miss Tom Kenny voicing :iconoldspyroplz: these days. You know, if I weren't still on writer's block, I would have been able to write a fan letter to Tom Kenny by now. I just don't know what to write to him yet.

Here are my attempts at drawing :iconoldspyroplz: - (Spyro & Jake Long: Ripto's Revenge Final Version Poster), (Spyro & Jake Long: Ripto's Revenge Preview Version Poster) and (Pastel Drawing of Spyro the Dragon).

This really takes me back in time to an era where I don't need to give a damn about the constant crap the 21st Century keep churning out. No The Legend of Spyro trilogy, no Skylanders, no Adventure Time, no Regular Show, no mediocre Cartoon Network cartoons... it's all good! Thank you so much for the memories! ;) :thanks:  :tighthug: :cuddle: :glomp: Man, what would I give to travel back to the good ol' 90's...?

I know, the first game just seems so short... but maybe it is so enjoyable it just flies by fast. I am not sure.  I always just enjoy exploring, hitting those speed ramps and flying around which was very impressive for how limiting the PSOne truly was honestly.

Yes, that same image but I used the backcover of the game for his exact pose I used as reference so he is facing the other way instead of that direction in that link.  I think he looks cooler in the backcover than in that image actually although it is still that same pose.

It's been so long since I last played Spyro 1, I really don't remember much of the game besides the basic things I did.  I couldn't tell you much of what the levels were like. I just remember burning, plants, jumping on platforms, watching Spyro's body sort of jump like he was on wires and Sparx's always flying around me.  I remember the game but not the visuals so much, it's hard to describe... I guess always like doing something all the time and not really remembering it like a reaction.

Yeah, I was a bit worried on the scales but with all of the brush types you can use in SAI or even photoshop, you can do some tricks to do a 'scales' like effect which is what I tried to do in this image. I think for a first test it came out looking pretty well but I will experiment more in the future to try to find a better look without having to draw all of them all the time.  Maybe even using a line effect of layers all over it and tweaking the layer to fit inside the line.  We'll see... there are so many ways I can think of doing it differently, I'll try for the other techniques in the future and see how they come out.

I am sure Tom Kenny gets so many letters all the time from fans especially for his works on SpongeBob so I would do a nice letter on a stationery like background for e-mail or physically writing to him by mail with some drawings along side the letter to have it stand out.  Thank him for his body of work that has touched you and how you share that with others, how it affected your life, etc., etc. and I am sure he'll be very happy with it.  On the fourth season of 'Rocko's Modern Life' they have an awesome live recording of the cast of Tom Kenny, Carlos Alzaraqui, Charlie Adler and Mr. Lawrence doing all of their parts from the show twenty years ago.  HaHa  Great stuff there!

Keep practicing. I did many sketches before I started on this so I could capture the official art as best as I could for this.  It takes time and practice which only come with doing more and more drawings.

If you find a way back to that magic '90's era you make sure to let me know, I'll pack my bags.
